Sandy Cove is a close knit coastal community shaped by the sea, its people and generations of shared history.
The Sandy Cove Sentinel exists to celebrate and strengthen the connections that make our community unique. We are committed to sharing stories, achievements, and events that bring neighbours together and foster a sense of belonging.
Our identity is inspired by the people, landscapes, and traditions of Sandy Cove. We honour the history of our community while embracing the stories and voices that continue to shape its future.
We believe in honest communication, respectful storytelling, and representing our community with integrity. Every story, update, and interaction is guided by a commitment to accuracy, transparency, and local pride.
Meet Our Community Associations
Church of the Nativity
This church was consecrated in 1844 and has served the village continuously since that time. Even today there are services held regularly during the summer months.
Zion United Church
Zion United church was built initially as a methodist church in 1856 but was incorporated into the United church of Canada in the mid 1920’s. The church holds services during the summer months and is the home of the summer concert series produced by Cove Music.
United Baptist Church
The United Baptist church opened in 1849 and is associated with its long-time pastor Reverend John Chipman Morse who was instrumental in its building and held his position as its first Baptist pastor for 63 years! The church is used by the community for regular silent meditation, community gatherings and author readings.
Eldridge Memorial Library
The Eldridge Memorial Library was founded in 1936. A gathering spot for local residents, it hosts the Sandy Cove Hookers rug hooking group, as well as author readings and book launches. The library also administers the Dr. Frederick Garland and Clara Blanche Morehouse Memorial Scholarship, the Dr. Anthony and Carol Measham Health Sciences Prize, the Dr. Ronald and Naomi Morehouse Science Prize and the Chad Tidd Memorial Scholarship.
The Volunteer Fire Hall – Women’s Auxiliary
The Auxiliary organizes popular community suppers. These culinary and social gatherings are organized to raise funds that support the lifesaving equipment and operational needs of the Digby Neck Fire Department.
Sandy Cove Conservancy
The Sandy Cove Conservancy is committed to the conservation of Sandy Cove’s natural environment, architectural spaces and our shared community heritage. They organize and raise money for local causes such as regular beach clean-ups, church restorations, community mapping gatherings and this website.
Sandy Cove Community Markets
More than thirty vendors gather twice in the summer to showcase their wares. There are crafts, baked goods, preserves, artwork, home decor jewelry, pottery and textiles and more. A real showcase of local arts and crafts.
Cove Music
Cove Music is dedicated to hosting a live concert series in the Zion United church showcasing Maritime musicians each summer. The community-run series keeps ticket prices affordable and donates profits to local projects like church repair funds and beach access improvements.
Digby Neck & Islands Garden Club
The club organizes gatherings such as plant sales and potlucks and partners on projects like the Digby Neck Consolidated School community gardens. They also visit regional gardens, share gardening tips and participate in local beautification projects.
Digby Neck Sizzling Seniors
This is a group for men and women 55+ who meet once a month throughout the year (except in July and August). Meetings often feature potluck meals, music, bingo, quilting shows and seasonal picnics.
